About the group
Rising Voices is a weekly choir open to anyone affected by drugs and alcohol, as well as family members and those who work or volunteer in treatment services. We have been singing together for over 10 years, offering a great opportunity to build connections, feel part of a recovery community, and to be uplifted by the power of singing with others.
No singing experience is needed — we learn by ear and truly believe everyone can sing!
Performances are optional, but they can be a great way to build confidence and self-esteem. As well as our regular end of term concerts, we have performed at Bristol Beacon, The Recovery Festival, St. George’s, The Mount Without, Circomedia, St. Stephen’s, the SS Great Britain, Tortworth Arboretum and many many more. We also regularly feature on radio and tv, including Songs of Praise, BBC Points West, ITV West, BBC Radio Bristol, BCFM and Ujima.
Who can join our groups?
Our groups are open to anyone with lived experience of drug or alcohol use—whether that’s recent or from 30 years ago. We also welcome people who work or volunteer in drug and alcohol services to join Bristol Recovery Orchestra or Rising Voices Choir, as we know it benefits staff mental health and working practice.

What our group members say
Rising Voices choir has been like a golden thread through my recovery. There have been bleak and miserable times when I’ve dragged myself to choir practice and forced myself to join in, but the magic of singing with people who understand always works, and I always feel comforted and uplifted when we check out.
